Session #3  (1 hr 50 min)
Goals: Reflect on Assn #2, then explore Cloud Computing and the world of Web2.0

  • (2 min) Update electronic Attendance and color your cell blue if present.
  • (3 min) Beth's Yodio reflection of our first few class sessions. Personal, student, and business applications.
  • (3 min) Dominque Lomax (Google Blog: Math Journals). Her first week as a new teacher in China. Wishing her the best.

  • (2 min) Assessment (grades) accurate? Quick Syllabus/Calendar review.
  • (~ 45 min) Google Docs Suite group project presentations
  • Break time.
  • Checking Assessment (grades):  username: willamettemat    pw: ask instructor
    • Demo instructors Google Reader, and value as a productivity tool.

  • (~20 min) Intro to cloud computing and Web2.0 tools (Emerging Technologies and Rethinking our Schools)
    • Follow-up with Wordle activity. Brainstorm the possibilities.


Assignment #3 (break, and begin in class)

Web2.0 and Emerging Technologies; Rethinking our Schools
  • Create a new Post in your personal Educ520 blog titled My Favorite Web2.0 tools. Your Post will include three (3) components.
  • The three (3) components include:
    • Component 1- Using your own words, define Web2.0 (include an articulate definition, links, examples, etc.). 
    • Component 2- In our Class Data Sheet under Team Projects, each of you is assigned to one cloud-based tool in the Personal Productivity category.
      • Your role includes experimenting with the tool; articulately defining and describing the function of the tool (in your own words); and describing how this tool might increase a teacher or student(s) personal productivity and enhance learning.
      • Categories include: TinyURL; Delicious (shared favorites/bookmarks); Dropbox (hybrid); 4Shared; and Teamviewer
        • An overview and description of each product is located here: Web2.0 tools.
      • Although you may work collaboratively on this project within your group (exploring, asking and answering essential questions, etc.) -> each student will reflect on their experience in their personal blog post. 
    • Component 3- In the Class Data Sheet, each of you is assigned to one tool from the cloud-based Screen Recorders category. 
      • Categories include: Screenr; Voice Thread; and Ustream (and I'm open to other suggestions)
        • An overview and description of each product is located here:  Web2.0 tools.
      • The task includes experimenting with the tool; articulately defining and describing the function of the tool (in your own words); and describing how this tool might increase teacher or student personal productivity and enhance learning.
      • Although you may work collaboratively on this project within your group (exploring, asking and answering essential questions, etc.) -> each student will reflect on their experience in their personal blog post.
  • This activity will also satisfy Critical Assessment 4.13.
